Eastsound, Orcas Island,
San Juan Islands
We
weren’t sure where we were going to take Ashley and Ada on their boating adventure. It depended
on when David was able to get the transmission filter installed and tested. We
had hoped to make it to Eastsound on Orcas
Island but it all
depended on departing in time to make it back through Peavine Pass
during slack tide.
Luckily,
the part for the transmission fit and functioned well. We were on our way
earlier than expected so headed for Eastsound. Revved up the engine to 8.5 knots to get us
there in time. Ada took a two hour nap
which is so unlike her…must have been the motion of the boat that kept her
rocked to sleep. We arrived about three hours later, anchored, had lunch than
boarded the skiff for shore.
Ada was a real trooper
wearing her lifejacket…more like a straight jacket. We had a lovely stroll
through this delightful town, did some shopping, stopped for bakery goods and
an ice cream (all the necessities) and then ended up at Madrona’s for a beer. Ada fell asleep on the
walk back to the skiff and slept all the way to the Belle. She is now over the
initial confusion of where she is and what is happening and has taken full
control! She is the Captain now!
It’s
an early night tonight especially for Ada
and Mom. David and I aren’t going to last much longer, either. We are expecting
a storm tonight so have our anchor alarm on just in case. We are one of two
boats in the harbor. Tomorrow we hope to
show the girls Friday Harbor on San Juan Island.
Fun times with Mom
