Bellingham, Day Two

In anticipation of our guests, I have been scrubbing and polishing the Belle. David went for a long walk to the chandlery to look for a needed part and to check out the boat surplus store…his favorite treasure hunt. Ashley and Ada don’t arrive until 9:30 tonight so we have lots of time to get things ready.

It is sunny but windy and cool today. So glad we are attached to a dock. I like the freedom of anchoring but moorage has definite advantages: garbage drop off, power, water, clean showers and here at the Bellington Harbor several restaurants. David commented on how quiet it was last night without our generator vibrating.

I took a three mile long walk yesterday around the marina and passed six different restaurants. There is even a marine center where they have large tanks filled with sea life. Along the walk there are several areas with lawn and play equipment for the children. I even tried out a couple of the fitness apparatuses set up facing the marina. It is quite the popular walking path for the young and old alike.

We enjoy the sweet town of Bellingham, and it is so convenient that Alegiant Airlines flies in here from Oakland. It is also a short drive from our home marina in BC, so I have flown up here at least twice to meet David.

The filter for the transmission that David has been working so hard to find has been a challenge. He went to three different shops and the first pair of filters he brought home were the wrong size. After two trips to town, he had to make a third (all on foot) to return the filters and bring the old one in to see if they could find something close enough to work. They ordered another filter and now he needs to return tomorrow morning to pick it up and hope that it will do the job. He must have walked 10 miles today.

Ashley and Ada’s flight out of Oakland was delayed, and they did not arrive at our boat until midnight!  Ada was exhausted but wired, and it took some time for her to settle down and get to sleep.  It was the same for all of us.
