Plumper Cove Day Two
We expected rain and we got
buckets of it. Fortunately, we managed to take the harbor boat out and across
the Sound to Gibsons Landing to look for some oil pads for the engine room
before the deluge. We searched for some time for a public dinghy dock cruising
down avenues of boats in slips at both marinas with no luck. All we saw were
signs which read, “private property”, “reserved”, “no parking”, “don’t even
think about it!” (that last one was made up but it expresses the sentiment
nicely). Certainly not the welcome we
had hoped for.
Luckily, we ran into a most
congenial man named Jim who was working on his boat, and he told us to tie up
to the slip next to him since no one was expected there for a few days. The
walk to the marina store was short, and they had just what we needed. We left
in the nick of time…the downpour came once we were safely inside the Belle.
We have toured Gibsons before
so were not disappointed to just take a day to relax on our boat. David worked
again on the electrical system onboard while I dove into a book.
Later that day ready to
tackle a sink full of dirty dishes, David discovered that the water pump had
died! Ah, but we were in luck…David had
stashed away a replacement part and the day was saved! We learned early on to try and carry as many
parts as possible…you just never know what will break down next. Clean dishes and showers… inside as well as
outside…another good day.
