Prince Rupert
What a gift to have a restful morning. We didn’t head out to
explore until 11:00. The town of Prince Rupert, although in some
respects seemed to be just hanging on, had an impressive meat market, bakery,
barber (too busy to take on shaggy David), as well as the obligatory WalMart
and Safeway. It is also the home to the Northern BC Museum, housed in a heavy timbered building, which we visited.
We enjoyed the beautiful exhibits but were still wanting for
more explicit information regarding what we were viewing. I found myself completely awed by the native bead
work. The museum had a wonderful view of the harbor, gardens and boardwalk. We
stopped on a bench to enjoy some sausage rolls we had purchased at the bakery
and were closely watched by five menacing looking ravens.

There were several thrift stores, and we checked each one for a replacement for our Kitchen Aid mixer. No luck.
David carried our groceries back to the boat while I browsed
galleries and gift shops. I was tempted to buy myself a ceramic “spirit bear”
for a keepsake but quickly came to my senses. We are supposed to be
“downsizing” and will soon have to pack up all our “treasures” to be moved to
our new house. Don’t need to add to the clutter that already exists!
Before going to bed, we discussed our trip south and chose a
few new destinations. What we found out was that life has its own agenda.
