Climbing out of "the cave"
July 14th
9:00 departure
cloudy 55 degreees
When we hauled up the crab traps this morning, we found them
empty except for the star fish. We discovered that some string had fallen off
one of the trap doors which would have given the crabs a good escape route.
Repairs are needed. Maybe it wasn’t the crabbers in Neka Bay who took our crab as
first thought.
I heard David laughing while he was on the dock and called
to us to come out. On the shore near the dock were clams and they were
spitting. Ada was fascinated by these silly streams of water shooting into the
air. It was quite the giggle.

We spotted otters floating past the boat along the way.
Heard a Coast Guard alert regarding a man overboard in Glacier Bay. It happened
yesterday at 6 am. Asked boaters to be on the lookout.
The family is doing just fine entertaining themselves during
this bitterly cold day. Ada has been playing “Slap Jack”, “Old Maid” and “Crazy
Eights” with the cards left behind by Auntie Jessica. Plenty of snacking is
happening between videos, sticker stories, reading, solitaire and more
cribbage.
Originally, we were going to head for Skagway but due to the
advice of those we felt knowledgeable, decided not to attempt it. Instead, we
are retracing the route we took with Diane and Mike. We are familiar with the
harbors so the trip has been relatively easy. These beautiful destinations were
well worth the sharing, and we knew the fishing and crabbing conditions were
favorable.
Off to drop the crab pots
