Days 6 and 7 Beaver Inlet to Douglas Bay

Days 6 and 7  Beaver Inlet to Douglas Bay

Today was a short little jaunt. We left Beaver Inlet at around 10:30 this morning making our way through Whirlpool Rapids two hours later.  Luckily, the whirlpools weren"t awake yet.  After only traveling 14 nautical miles, we anchored in Douglas Bay in Forward Harbour. It was smooth sailing. This most likely would be a two night stay. Our length of stay depends on the winds and wave action on Johnstone Strait.

I had a lazy afternoon reading instructions for our new Standard Horizon radio. I learned how to set up a channel scan, how to change the channel group from USA to Canada, and read up on our AIS Operation which helps identify, contact and avoid large vessels near us. Always a good idea.

Having an extra day just to recharge, revisit our itinerary and make necessary changes, rest, and get chores done is just what the captain ordered. Today was painting day. Both Dave and I worked on the dodger. Togetherness. I managed to tough it out finishing half of of the job. My body just doesn't bend and twist in low tight spaces as easily as it used to. David never stopped.

We checked our crab pots early this morning and found only one female. Decided to find different spots to drop the pots for the day. In the past, we have caught two nice keepers here. Hoping we will have the same luck this time.

Douglas Bay is a popular anchorage. Boats coming through Whirlpool Rapids usually drop the hook here before heading to Johnstone Strait. There were at least nine boats, mostly American, sharing the bay with us last night and several left at 4:30 this morning. We figure they were heading for the strait before the winds intensified. David wants to do the same tomorrow.

Now that's a real "Home Delivery" service!

                                                       Finally, signs of civilization
